Day 1: Embarking on the Learning Journey

The children were all very excited about the trip. Everyone reached the airport earlier than the stipulated time. The faces of the little ones gleamed and showed tons of excitement. It was nice to see many people coming to send us off on this beautiful morning and that includes our Principal (Mr Tay) and some of our Keming teachers. It was a mixed feeling of excitement and sadness for most of us. Tears welled up in some students' eyes. Parting with family members was not easy. Nevertheless, the students plucked up their courage and bade their families farewell.
Aditi (5 Pearl)
I feel like running back to my family members at the departure hall. I am going to miss them. I will learn to be independent.
Kim Yoon Sung (5 Ruby)
I enjoyed my flight journey on the SIA plane. The food was fantastic and I could watch TV games and watch movies.

Tan Yen Ming (5 Pearl)
Shimen is very BIG! I love the hostel as the beds are comfortable and there is air conditioning for all the rooms.

Lycia Goh (5 Opal)
Today was super tiring but FUN! I love the plane ride as there were games and movies though the food was not much to my liking.
Hi All!

We've touched down safely, and everything is good here.

Let us just get settled and keep your eyes here for more updates. :)

Thoughts from teachers-in-charge

How time flies! Just one more day and we will be in China. Hooray!!! Our EI (Emotional Index) is pretty high yah!

Frankly, this trip is a real challenge for us, the teachers-in-charge especially with alarming news on EV 71 and the recent earthquake. For your information, the school has already informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education about our trip. We are monitoring the situation in China very closely keeping in mind that SAFETY is our TOP PRIORITY. Rest assured there is regular communication with our travel agent as well as the teacher-in-charge over at Shimen. Glad to know that the situation in Nanhai is stable and okay. What a relief! :)

Practices... for a surprise

These few days, our team went into 'seclusion'. What? Not for exam, of course. :p Well, we want to surprise our Shimen friends in China and that explains why we 'hide' in the music studio to perfect our skit, songs and fashion parade. We are set to entertain and impress our new friends with our talents. Shhh... do not tell them. It is a lot of hard work indeed but we enjoy it especially the team bonding. :)

Our thoughts before the trip...

Herliyana Sarah Pua (5 Pearl)

I am very excited as this is the first overseas trip without my parents. I am feeling a little scared but I am sure I will overcome it.

Liew Zhijun (5 Onyx)

I would like to learn more about China and her history. However, I am afraid that I will be homesick as this is the first time I am going to a faraway land for a long period of time.

Bae Jin Woo (5 Opal)

I feel excited and happy though I am a bit worried. I think it will be alright over at the China side. According to my parents, Foshan’s situation is okay. I feel quite assured but still have to be alert. I hope all of us will have a safe and fun trip.

Yang Zhengxue (5 Opal)

I am feeling excited about the trip as I can make new friends and learn more things. I am also feeling a little scared about the HFMD and earthquake in China but I hope that it will be okay. I really wish to go for the trip.

Md Shahid (5 Amethyst)

I look forward to meet my new friends in China. I hope there will be no earthquake and we will be safe throughout the journey.

Cheah Cayyin (5 Onyx)

I am really excited about this trip. I am going to make new friends and stay at my buddy's house in China. I will also get to know more about the Chinese culture and visit Hong Kong Disneyland. I am looking forward to this trip.

Kim Yoon Sung (5 Ruby)

I have enjoyed the meetings that prepare us for the China trip. I think I must take good care of myself so that I will be healthy and not fall sick before and during the trip.

Mindy Boo (5 Ruby)

I have been to China before and it is a very nice place. I do not know why many of my friends said that China is very dirty.
